History

Beginnings
1950

Monarch Jewelry is a unique jewelry store with a remarkable history. The beginnings of which go back to the 1950's in South Africa where Leonard traveled dealing in diamonds. While there, he discovered something much more valuable than the brilliant stones he had originally sought, eventually marrying Francine, a nurse who had traveled to South Africa after World War II.

Travels
1964

After the birth of their two children, John and Michael, Leonard moved the family to Sao Paolo, Brazil where he competed with H. Stern in the captivating market of colored gemstones. After building his colored stone business for several years in Brazil, Leonard again moved the family, this time to Europe, while spreading his travels across much of the globe in his search for unusual, one of a kind gemstones

Gemstones
1970

In 1975 it was once again time to move the family, this time to Orlando, Florida where they founded a company selling wholesale gemstones to jewelers throughout the United States.

Apprenticeships
1973

At the age of 18, John entered the business and began working in Idar-Oberstein, Germany in a lapidary shop where he learned to cut gemstones, transforming them from the rough and jagged minerals coaxed from the ground into polished, glistening works of art. He then worked for 4 years as a goldsmith.

Transitions
1998

In 1998, after nearly 30 years in the wholesale colored stone business, Leonard and John made the transition into retail when they opened Jewelry Plus in Casselberry, Florida.

Legacies
2002

John and Shawn once again transitioned the business when they undertook the design and construction of a new building in Winter Park. In addition to a massive construction project, the business name was changed from Jewelry Plus to Monarch Jewelry; the remarkable metamorphosis of the Monarch butterfly was chosen to reflect the changes that have become a part of their rich history. The symbolism of a butterfly´s transformation was also befitting the remarkable changes effected on the custom designed pieces they create right in the store.

Metamorphosis
2012

Today, Monarch Jewelry has set themselves apart from most traditional jewelry stores through their broad range of services "We do everything, and we do it here, on our premises." says Shawn "Our custom designs are always one of a kind, our commitment to quality is unyielding and we back it up with our own personal guarantee. We don't sell you additional warranties or make you pay for peace of mind when it comes to your jewelry. If we created it, we take care of it. It's as simple as that.
